Giovanni Traverso, one of the authors of the study, said that the device mainly collects sound waves from different parts of the intestines of the user and uses special algorithms to reduce noise and process to obtain important physiological characteristics such as the heartbeat and respiratory rate of the user. feature.
The researchers used this method to collect up to 400 minutes of sound information on six pigs. The results showed that the heart rate based on this technique was consistent with the respiratory rate and the results of the standard vital sign detection device.
