British launches new cutting tool for ophthalmic surgery

Introducing New Cutting Tools for Ophthalmic Surgery According to an article in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, the pulsed electronic avalanche knife, a new electrosurgical tool, makes it easier to perform cataract surgery in complex situations.
Dr. Siegfried G. Priglinger of Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and his colleagues were enrolled in 20 patients undergoing concurrent cataract surgery to evaluate the safety and efficacy of pulsed electronic avalanche knives.
The results showed that 15 patients successfully performed anterior lens capsulotomy, the sharp edge of the pulsed electronic avalanche knife showed little side damage, and 3 patients used the pulse electron avalanche knife to perform post-iris adhesion separation to make the mature cataract iris. Completely separated from the lens capsule, two patients successfully performed opacity in front of the capsule.
