Uses
(2-Carboxyethyl)dimethylsulfonium Chloride is the hydrochloride salt of Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (D479360), a metabolite produced primarily by marine phytoplankton and is the main precursor to the c limatically important gas dimethylsulfide (DMS). 

DMPT is the fifth-generation aquatic attractant found to be the best so far. Experiments have shown that even if the stone is coated with it, the fish bite the stone. So some people use "fish bite stone" to vividly describe its attractant effect. 
The most typical use of DMPT is used as a bait for fishing to improve the attractant of the bait and make the fish easy to bite. 
The industrial use of DMPT is as a green aquafeed additive to promote aquatic animal feed intake and increase its growth rate.
