Red Grape Variety - Primitivo

Primitivo is an ancient species in the Mediterranean region. It originated in Greece and was later introduced to Italy. It is mainly cultivated in the Puglia region in southern Italy. In the past, this breed was not known, but as the scientists discovered through genetic analysis, the famous Zinfandel breed in California was originally a descendant of Primitivo in Italy, so the popularity of Primitivo is getting higher and higher. In the Italian Puglia region, Primitivo produces a series of high-quality wines that are warm, rich and full of flavor.

The DNA assay showed that Zenfandel and Primitivo are actually of the same species, and their DNA is almost identical. Primitivo is the ancestor of Zengfang, because compared with Zenfandel, Primitivo has no difference between Zenfandel and primitivo except that the fruit is slightly larger and the ripening period is later. However, they are currently classified by the United States ATF (Tobacco Weapons Agency) into two separate grape varieties.
