Release date: 2017-07-20

Tian Jie, a researcher at the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led the Key Laboratory of Molecular Imaging of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has long been focusing on the clinical transformation and application of new molecular imaging imaging technology, and has carried out systematic clinical research cooperation with many top three hospitals across the country. Recently, the laboratory cooperated with the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital (301 Hospital) in the interventional ultrasound department. In the two fields of molecular imaging applied to the interventional photothermal therapy of pancreatic cancer and the molecular mechanism of molecular markers applied to liver cancer, Significant clinical research results. Relevant research progresses were published in Medicinal Research Reviews and Advanced Material, respectively, and become a typical example of breakthroughs in the cross-in collaboration between laboratories and clinical hospitals.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly malignant tumor of the digestive tract. Its surgical resection rate is low, and the treatment regimen (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, etc.) is not effective. Therefore, it is necessary to find a better treatment plan in clinical practice. As an emerging treatment method, photothermal therapy (PTT) has attracted great attention because of its good curative effect on tumors. However, this type of treatment has poor light penetration and cannot reach the problem of deep tumors. To solve this problem, the team conducted a study of local interventional photothermal therapy (IPTT). Upar was used as a pancreatic cancer target to synthesize nanogold probe uIGNs for photothermal therapy, and interventional phototherapy for pancreatic cancer was performed using a laboratory-developed interventional device. The results of the experiment showed that the average survival rate of IPTT therapy was increased by 25% compared with the commonly used 125I radiotherapy, and the metastasis of pancreatic tumor was inhibited. This interventional photothermal therapy provides new methods and strategies for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. This work was published in Adv. Mat. (DOI: 10.1002/adma. 201700448) under the title A comparative study of clinical intervention and interventional photothermal therapy for pancreatic cancer.

The global incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is high, and most patients are diagnosed at mid-late stage and cannot be surgically removed. Therefore, early diagnosis of liver cancer is the key to liver cancer treatment. However, hepatocellular carcinoma less than 1 cm lacks characteristic imaging findings, and no characteristic molecular markers make liver cancer impossible to detect accurately at an early stage. Therefore, specific markers have important clinical significance for early diagnosis and prolonged survival of liver cancer. To address this challenge, the team conducted an in-depth study of the GPC-3 target and published it on Med. Res. Rev. (DOI: 10.1002/med.21455) titled Glypican-3: A Promising Biomarker for Hepatocellular Carcinoma Diagnosis and Treatment Thesis. This paper focuses on the mechanism exploration of GPC-3 target, explores the regulation of various growth factors and Wnt signaling pathways in HCC cells, studies the mechanism of hepatocellular carcinoma and the transport principle of GPC-3, and targets GPC-3. The target is used for molecular imaging and targeted therapy, and it is considered that it has a broad prospect of HCC treatment and is expected to be used for clinical transformation.

The publication of these two results proves that molecular imaging technology can provide new technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors, and provides new ideas for medical workers to cooperate in research and development, and provides a new method for promoting precision medical research in China.
